The word venture implies speculation, risk and a hope of reward. Venture Managers build on an entrepreneurial spirit, a skilled team and managed resources to develop vibrant and effective innovation processes which add value to companies and their customers. Personal qualities needed to manage ventures are initiative, imagination, vision and self-confidence.
As a student of Venture Management, you will gain the expertise to develop and manage innovation in both start-up businesses and in established companies. You will also acquire key business skills in areas such as design and creativity, product development, intellectual property, business planning and venture capital fundraising. You will learn to think analytically and to communicate clearly and effectively.
These entrepreneurial skills are particularly suitable for small businesses, and are valuable in many businesses and other organisations, such as large corporations, public sector bodies or non-profit enterprises.
Course structure
As a Single Honours Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) degree, a broad range of business and management subjects are taken in first, second, and third year.
There is an option to convert the BBS to a Bachelor of Business Administration
(BBA) by extending your degree to 4 years. Students undertake a paid business work
placement (organised by the university) in Third Year and complete the taught
coursework in Fourth Year. On successful completion of the course, students are
awarded a BBA in Venture Management.
All students must pass the ECDL
(European Computer Driving License) to proceed to Second Year. The ECDL
course is available at the university.
