Law is a challenging and highly respected field. As a student, you will explore the legal relationships that pervade our society, affecting individuals, families, corporations and the State. You will acquire a thorough grounding in the fundamental areas of legal study, including Irish domestic law, the Irish legal system, and European law. At the same time, you will gain a strong foundation in business and management, acquiring skills in areas such as economics, marketing, accounting, and human resources.
The study of Law develops your facility for argument and reasoning, for clear thinking, and for the analysis of complicated ideas. You will also gain the ability to express complex issues clearly in oral and written forms. A grounding in business topics will also open up avenues to enter many areas of enterprise and management.
Course Structure
As a Single Honours Bachelor of Business and Law degree, a range of business and legal subjects are taken in all years.
There are two options in Second and Third Year; Joint Honours with Law and Business or Major/Minor with Law (Major) and a Minor in Business.
All students must pass the ECDL (European Computer Driving License) to proceed to Second Year. The ECDL course is available at the university.
Career Options
This degree is primarily designed to prepare students for entry to professional legal study. Students will be in a position to sit professional legal examinations on graduation. The written and oral skills that Law graduates acquire are also in demand in the public and private sectors in Ireland, as well as in European institutions. The study of business skills opens up additional career options to students, including enterprise, management, accountancy, administration, the media, and consultancy; and will be of particular value to those wishing to pursue careers in major law firms.
