
We are pleased to advise that NUI Maynooth have introduced a new subject, Engineering Science, which is available in many of our science degrees from 2012 entry. Engineering Science can be taken to degree level as a single honours degree, or as a double honours with another subject.
The degrees in which this subject is available are Science (MH201 - all years), Computer Science and Software Engineering (MH203 - 1st Year only), Physics with Astrophysics (MH204), Psychology through Science (MH209 - 1st and 2nd year) and Multimedia, Mobile and Web Development (MH211 - 1st Year).
As with all our programmes, stduents have up to 4 weeks at the beginning of the academic year to explore the range of optional subjects in their degree programme.

The minimum age for matriculation on the basis of mature years for part-time courses to any of the National University constituent universities is 21. In line with this policy, NUI Maynooth has reduced the age for registration onto Part-time courses from 23 to 21 years of age with immediate effect. If you were 21 years of age or over on 1st January 2011 you can begin your educational journey with us. We have a wide range of courses on offer from Creative Writing to Psychology at Certificate level or enrol in our Certificate or Diploma in Addiction Studies. Combine modules from the disciplines of Anthropology, Sociology, History and Geography among others on our Evening Degree programmes in Local and Community Studies. The Froebel College of Education and The Irish Preschool Play Association are delighted to announce a new degree, a ‘BA in Early Childhood — Teaching & Learning' accredited through the National University of Ireland Maynooth, which will be available to the early childhood care and education sector commencing in April 2011.

This scholarship has been established through a partnership of the Kildare County Council, industry in Kildare, second level schools and NUI Maynooth who are actively engaged in promoting the study of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in the local region.
Eligibility for the Scholarship
- There will be 4 scholarships awarded to first year NUI Maynooth students in 2011. On successful completion of each year of study, this scholarship will last for the duration of the chosen undergraduate degree programme.
- Students registered for year 1 of any of the following courses at NUI Maynooth will be eligible for consideration:
MH201 Science
MH202 Biotechnology
MH203 Computer Science and Software Engineering
MH204 Physics with Astrophysics
MH206 Theoretical Physics and Maths
MH210 Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Chemistry
MH211 Multimedia, Mobile and Web Development
MH301 Electronic Engineering with Computers
MH302 Electronic Engineering
MH303 Electronic Engineering with Communications
MH304 Common Entry to Engineering
- It is intended that the four scholarships will be awarded such that there will be a maximum of one scholarship in any of the above degrees, in order to provide a wider balance across the University’s STEM degree programmes.
- Students will be assessed on the basis of their Leaving Certificate results or an EU equivalent exam result.
- Students must be residents of County Kildare at the time of application for their degree programme at NUI Maynooth. Alternatively, students must have attended a second level school in County Kildare and sat their LC examinations at that school.
- All students with a minimum of 500 LC points will be eligible for consideration. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of points, if there are more eligible students than the number of scholarships available. Students on the same points levels will share the scholarship on a pro rata basis.
- Students must have achieved a minimum of 2 grade As in LC higher level papers in Mathematics and any one of the following: Chemistry, Physics, Agricultural Science, Physics and Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Design and Communication Graphics, Technology or Applied Mathematics.
- Accommodation on campus will be reserved for the Scholarship students. Normal charges apply.
- The scholarship will be payable in two instalments on November 1st and February 1st annually, subject to satisfactory progress.
